The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the position of Engineering Technician II within the Department of Public Works Water Utility Division. This full-time position reports to the Water Operations Manager. The applicant must be capable of performing skilled and advanced technical work in the office and the field in conjunction with design, construction and coordination of municipal water distribution projects; have good public relation skills; and be a motivated independent worker. This position routinely works with other Water Utility and Engineering Division personnel. The person is responsible for identifying and performing engineering technical duties, which follow prescribed methods and procedures, and also involve the application of previously acquired engineering and heavy construction methods.
Various duties and responsibilities include:
Water main design; preparation of plans and specifications for contract bidding; oversee construction activities; create and maintain permanent records of system components; advise, assist and coordinate work with Water Utility maintenance crews; provide general and technical information to private contractors and the general public; conduct fire flow tests; review proposed plans for private water extension projects; locate utility facilities when necessary; perform minor maintenance work and update inventory records.
Working knowledge of Water Utility operations, construction methods, water main and service fittings; working knowledge and ability to assemble engineering and computer aided drawing (AutoCad, ArcGIS) plans and specifications; extensive knowledge of construction practices and procedures; ability to assemble and interpret engineering plans and specifications; ability to maintain accurate and complete records and the ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations.
Required Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent; previous technical training and/or relevant experience in civil engineering and water distribution; five or more years of engineering office or field experience and good communication skills.
