Public Works Manager

City of Onalaska is accepting applications for the position of Public Works Manager due to retirements and vacancies in the department. This is a new position created to combine water, sewer, storm water and street under one department – Public Works. This position is under the supervision of the City Engineer/Public Works Director, and is responsible for the planning, organizing, and assigning work for the day to day operations of the Public Works Department; oversees all water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, streets, street lighting/signals, fleet, street signs, forestry and cemetery infrastructure along with adhering to all county, state, and federal regulations and requirements; manages the City snow plowing and de-icing during winter precipitation events; serves as the Operator of Record for Water and Sewer interactions. Must have Water Distribution Certification at hire.

Qualifications: Associate degree in Engineering/Construction or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience required; minimum of three (7) years of experience in Municipal Public Works with understanding of Municipal Water Distribution and process treatment; minimum of three (3) year to five (5) years supervisory experience required.   Applicants must possess: an aptitude for arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations; an ability to read, spell, and communicate orally and in writing; proficiency in the operation and use of computers; the ability to understand and read maps/blueprints for identifying sewer and water locations; complete knowledge of the operation and repairs of municipal infrastructure, including; streets, storm sewers, wells, lift stations, reservoirs and booster stations DNR certification in ground water, iron removal and distribution at time of hire required; and a valid driver’s license with good driving record.  Position is subject to a 24‑hour call‑out as needed.
