Street Worker – Mechanic –The City of Fennimore (pop. 2,500) seeks to fill this full-time position. The individual hired will work as part of a six-person team responsible for day-to-day maintenance and repair of the municipal street system including curb and gutter, sidewalks, storm sewers, street signs, tree trimming and removal and related activities; new street construction; maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; maintenance and repair of recreational facilities.
Primary duties will include the preventative maintenance and repair of all City-owned vehicles in the police, street, electric, water and sanitary departments. Ability to perform the following tasks will be essential:
- Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles by changing oil, checking batteries, repairing and replacing tires and tubes and lubricating equipment and machinery; replaces oil and air filters.
- Repairs and maintain gas and diesel engines and related equipment.
- Overhaul hydraulic and air brake systems; replaces master cylinders, rotors, brake pads, drums, etc; repair engine cooling systems, transmissions, axles and electrical systems.
- Orders and picks up parts and supplies.
Qualifications include minimum of two years training in mechanical repair of auto, truck, diesel and related equipment at a technical college or other recognized school, or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Holiday and weekend work may be required. A CDL license is required for the position. Testing for the presence of illegal drugs is a condition of employment. The City offers a competitive wage and benefit package.
