Wage and Salary: Hourly, with overtime & on call pay. $18.81 – $24.45 + licensing incentives

General Description(s):

The Lake Geneva Utility Commission is recruiting to fill an additional full time Wastewater Operator position. The essential function of this position is to operate and maintain the wastewater collection system and treatment plant to control flow and processing of wastewater, in order to meet local, state or federal regulations. Perform and record daily operations and maintenance activities for the wastewater utility, including data collection and entry, performing sample collection and laboratory analysis for process control and regulatory compliance schedules, as well as performing adjustments to treatment plant operations based on plant performance and testing data.

Other responsibilities include performing and recording maintenance required for the wastewater utility; inspect, operate, maintain and repair of valves, chemical feed systems, pumping stations, meters and treatment plant systems on intervals as required, ensuring that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.

This position requires knowledge of varied aspects of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection and treatment facility systems, connections and repairs. Candidates must be self-motivated, have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, possess great people skills and have a willingness to serve the public. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment, with the ability to routinely make decisions regarding priorities and operations.

This position is subject to after-hours, weekend and holiday work on a rotational basis.


Candidate must have computer knowledge and experience; be capable of using Wastewater SCADA control systems. Must also be able to use Word and Excel programs, having the ability to work within spreadsheets and word documents.

High school diploma with supplementary secondary courses in utility operations, environmental science, public health or a closely related field; and at least five (5) years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of collection or treatment systems including the operation of related maintenance equipment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Valid Wisconsin Regular and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a good driving record. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wastewater Operator’s Certificate Advanced; A1 – Suspended Growth, B – Solids Separation, C – Biological Solids, L – Laboratory. Ability to obtain licenses is negotiable at time of hire.

Preliminary interviews and reference check will be performed with selected applicants. Secondary interviews may be performed for final candidate selection.

Selected candidate may be subject to job related testing and will be subject to a background check and pre-employment drug screen and physical.
