Well water testing available for those in Waupun area; students explore contamination:  Those in the Waupun area with private drinking wells will have the opportunity to test their well water with Rock River Intermediate School and the University of Wisconsin – Extension, Fond du Lac County.  All area residents are welcome to participate, regardless of the county or township of residence.

Portage County water study finds nitrates above safe levels in quarter of wells:  Nearly a quarter of tested wells in Portage County exceed safe drinking water standards for nitrates, according to a new county study.

Plan seeks to drown out sea of green on popular Wisconsin River reservoirs by cutting algae-causing pollutants:  State regulators have detailed plans to ratchet down a source of noxious, water-choking algae blooms on a series of popular reservoirs in the Wisconsin River.  The Department of Natural Resources is targeting phosphorus that flows into the state’s longest river from Rhinelander south to Lake Wisconsin….

Former DNR staffers call Meteor permit unusual, precedent-setting:  Former Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources employees are questioning the agency’s decision to allow a Georgia company to fill rare wetlands for a frac sand processing facility in Monroe County.

Ex-official: Flint water plant plagued by problems:  The city’s former water utilities administrator said Friday the water system generated a huge number of resident complaints about odor and color two months after the city’s April 2014 switch to river water.

Univ. study identifies ‘hot spots’ of water quality violations:  While serious violations like those in the Flint, Mich., crisis are rare, ensuring reliable access to safe drinking water poses challenges for communities across the country, according to a recent study led by the University of California, Irvine.
