    Hi all,

I was wondering if and how other utilities charge their respective fire depts. for water used during training and fighting fires? Do you get reports of water used for lost water by your fire dept? Any info on how you keep tabs of the water and if you charge for it would be greatly appreciated. Take care!

We are regulated by the Public Service Commission. They have set up a Public Fire Protection fee that the City pays on a monthly basis. That includes any water used for training and fighting fires inside the City limits. Any water transported outside the city limits we bill the Fire District and they bill either the residence or the township where the fire was located. The Fire District keeps track of all the water and sends us a report for our files as needed.

We don’t charge the fire dept for water used for training. We get a report from our water dept once a year that lists water usage for various reasons Water tower cleaning, large leaks, etc. This would be included in this report. We need this information for a report filed with the PSC.
