City of La Crosse is seeking to hire a full-time Maintenance Electrician to become an essential team member in the Wastewater Department. The purpose of the Wastewater Department is to help protect public health and the environment by providing high-quality regional wastewater treatment services in an effective, efficient, and responsive manner. The Wastewater Treatment plant is a division of Water, Sewer, and Stormwater Utilities. The City of La Crosse Wastewater Treatment Plant is under a major upgrade introducing new cutting-edge technology to be one of the more advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants in Wisconsin.

The purpose of this position is to schedule, plan, perform, and direct electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs to automatic/manual controls and perform Wastewater Utility mechanical maintenance and repair work. Incumbents install electrical equipment, and diagnose and perform skilled electrical maintenance and repairs to wastewater treatment plant controls and equipment. They may also perform mechanical, plumbing and building repair and maintenance tasks. Position requires a working knowledge of plant and equipment operations. The work is performed under the supervision of the Superintendent of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Starting wage for this non-exempt position ranges between $30.18 – $34.57 per hour (80 hours bi-weekly), depending on qualifications.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, certification as an industrial journeyman or master electrician by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Has completed the industrial or JATC (Joint Apprenticeship Training Commission) construction apprentice program and has at least four years’ experience in electrical system and component installation and maintenance, preferably in a utility or industrial setting. A valid commercial driver’s license Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to successfully obtain commercial driver’s license within 30 days in the position. Must have the ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and confined space entry certifications. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
