The Village of Fox Crossing is currently accepting applications for a Wastewater Maintenance Worker.  The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair sewers and lift stations for the Village of Fox Crossing Wastewater Department. The work is performed under the direction of the Utility Superintendent.

Examples of Duties:

  • Checks lift stations and performs maintenance and repair on lift stations and equipment.
  • Operates the sewer cleaner.
  • Repairs collection systems
  • Maintains vehicles.
  • Investigates citizen complaints regarding sewer problems.
  • Performs general custodial duties.
  • Maintains and calibrates passport gas meters.
  • Maintains availability on call to respond to emergencies.  Required response time is 30 minutes or less (ideal response time is 15-20 minutes).
  • Able to climb and work in a confined space environment.
  • Assists water department personnel as needed.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs grounds maintenance functions; cuts grass and removes snow and ice.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned or required.
  • Assists the Street Department with plowing snow on an emergency basis.

Minimum Job Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent with two years of equipment maintenance experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience and training in general construction labor, water or wastewater treatment or distribution, or knowledge in utility construction, mechanical maintenance and/or plumbing is helpful.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Confined Space Entry Training
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the State of Wisconsin, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force.  Work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions.  Work also frequently requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling.  Position responsibilities occasionally require sitting and tasting or smelling.  Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision.  Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.  Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.  Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.  Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. On a frequent basis, work requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to vibration and exposure to blood borne pathogens.  Work may require the wearing of specialized personal protective equipment.  Work is generally performed in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
