Village of Cottage Grove is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time position in the Department of Public Works & Utilities. Work hours are 6:30am – 2:30pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend work and occasional overtime, work hours subject to change with little notice.
This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks related to all manners of public works and water/sewer utilities. Responsibilities include street & sidewalk maintenance, snow plowing, building/grounds maintenance, and operations associated with sewer, water, and stormwater (e.g., water testing, sewer maintenance/inspections). Required qualifications include high school graduation or equivalent and ability to operate all manners of heavy machinery and equipment typically used in a public works environment. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license and Class B CDL (or ability to attain in six (6) months) is required for the position. Wisconsin Waterworks Operator Certification in Groundwater and Distribution is also required (or ability to attain in twelve (12) months). Ideal candidates will have at least two (2) years of closely related experience, knowledge of infrastructure construction and maintenance, good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with the public.
Must be able to lift one hundred (100) lbs. and work outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions and all hours of the day or night. Starting salary range is $24.00/hour +/- dependent on qualifications and experience, with excellent Village benefits. Candidates with an existing Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B upon hire are eligible for a $2,500 bonus.
