City of Columbus, WI (pop. 5,530) is seeking a highly motivated, technically skilled, and collaborative individual for its full-time Department of Public Works Street Superintendent position. Columbus is located thirty minutes northeast of Madison, and is a growing and progressive community that combines the best of small town living with the amenities of a large nearby metropolitan area. Located on the banks of the Crawfish River, Columbus is a regional market center with a vibrant downtown.
This position is responsible for scheduling maintenance & construction activities, as well as working in the field as a member of the crew within the Public Works Department. The Street Superintendent directs the work of Public Works Maintenance employees. This position assumes most responsibilities of the Director of Public Works for day-to-day activities in the event the director may be absent.
A minimally qualified applicant will have knowledge or experience with the following:
- Valid Wisconsin State CDL Class “B” License with air brakes endorsement.
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience performing snow removal, road construction, road maintenance or road surface rating activities in a municipal or County setting is preferred.
- All other requirements as listed in the Position Description.
Salary & Benefits
This non-exempt position has a pay rate up to $27.00 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package which includes, health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and the Wisconsin Retirement System.
This position generally works Monday thru Friday daytime hours. Outside of normal hours, this position is on-call to plow snow, as well as help during any other emergency situations and work overtime as needed.
