An Introduction to Utility GIS and Web Mapping / Mobile Data Collection (6 Municipal Water/Wastewater/PDH Credits)

May 9 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pm

Geographic Information System (GIS) as a better way to store and manage your Utility asset information data. GIS is changing the way Utility organizations interact with their customers and communities, including data management, collection and distribution. It is also becoming more affordable.

GIS provides significantly improved capabilities and reliability by allowing anyone the ability to add, manage, analyze, or edit information in an interactive map platform for significant time savings and efficiencies over traditional methods.

Using GIS software, web maps can be configured and updated to perform inspections, record maintenance, or collect observations.

GIS is a useful tool for both water and wastewater operators. It is adaptable and customizable to the individual community’s needs. All existing documentation can quickly and easily be transferred to the GIS system.

During this introductory GIS training course, operators will learn the basics of creating a Utility focused web-based map using GIS software for performing inspections, including data collection, management and storage. Participants will obtain hands-on interactive web mapping experience, and will have the opportunity to collect records using a mobile device.
