The City of Sparta (Pop. 9522) is seeking applications for this full time position. Essential Qualifications include, valid Wisconsin CDL license with tanker & air brake endorsements within six months of hire, a high school diploma, demonstrated mechanical ability in equipment and/or electrical maintenance, ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, and ability to lift & remove heavy manhole covers using appropriate lifting tools. Applicant must have a strong work ethic and the ability to work in a public environment. Must pass a background check, drug screening, & physical exam. Desirable qualifications include, experience in wastewater plant operations, experience in machinery, pump & vehicle maintenance, basic understanding of 3 phase electrical systems, and basic computer literacy. Typical Job Responsibilities include scheduling & performing routine preventive maintenance & lubrication tasks on all plant equipment including pumps, blowers, motors, gear reducers, & vehicles. May haul biosolids to local farm sites using a tanker vehicle. Must record & maintain computerized service records on all plant equipment, occasionally respond to sewer calls & lift station alarms, collect wastewater samples, & perform other operation & maintenance tasks as assigned.
