City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the position of WTRRF Lab Supervisor. This full-time position reports directly to the WTRRF General Manager and will oversee an organized laboratory and analysis program to ensure all analysts are performing to the standards established by the Department of Natural Resources.
The primary purpose is to supervise (1) full-time and (2) part-time lab analysts and to perform, review, and approve all analyses, QA/QC, and data for permit compliance and billing purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate directly with the WTRRF General Manager about analysis, data, billing, and staff
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory codes and DNR compliance – NR 149, NR219, Standard Methods
- Maintain State Lab Certification – Perform Quality Control Testing
- Organize and maintain all files required as a Certified Lab
- Responsible for all lab operations, organization, and cleanliness
- Vendor Communication – request pricing for equipment and supplies. Mercury Minimization Program.
- Lab Maintenance and QA/QC – In accordance with NR149, perform LOD/LOQ studies, instrument calibrations, bench sheet preparation, solution prep and standardization, write and revise SOP’s, and maintain lab inventory
- Lab Sample Collection, Analysis, and Data Entry and Review – using Hach Wims
- Administrative Asst. Communication – purchasing for the lab, data review for hauler, industry, and OSG billing
- Lead Trainer for Lab Equipment Operation, Sampling, and Analysis
- Staff Responsibility – Conduct performance evaluations, maintain lab staffing schedule, fill in on Sundays/holidays as needed
- Budget – Review and update O&M costs, consider future increases and/or changes in analysis to propose a budget
- WTRRF Safety Representative – Safety audit SDS sheets, confined space, and lockout/tagout forms. Perform gas detector maintenance and training, attend bimonthly safety meetings, review and sign confined space entry permits, and ensure proper control of hazardous materials in the lab
Qualifications
- 4-year degree in biology, chemistry, or related field. 4-5 years of hands-on progressive wastewater and laboratory experience with 2-3 years in a supervisory/leadership role preferred
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
- DNR Operators License: Laboratory (L) required at hire. Subclasses: A1, B, C, D, N, P within the first year of hire
HOURS: MON-THURS: 5:30 am – 3 pm
FRI: 7:30 am – 11:30 am

SALARY RANGE: We offer a competitive compensation package ($79,195 – $92,659) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
