POSITION: Water & Sewer Operator II
LOCATION: Red Cliff Reservation
WAGE: Negotiable, DOQ, 40 hours per week, plus benefits.
SUPERVISOR: Public Works Administrator and/or Public Works Assistant Director
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: Perform a variety of operation and maintenance activities on the community water and sewer systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform various maintenance and system tasks as directed by the Public Works Administrator and/or Assistant Director, including daily labs, wellhouse checks and system checks.
- Recording data on water and sewer pumps and other pertinent equipment.
- Performing pump, equipment, and vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Must be able to operate and maintain equipment.
- Perform/oversee excavations and perform necessary repairs to community system, including water meter and meter radio installation.
- Must be able to understand and perform general plumbing principles.
- Perform the operations and maintenance on both water and sewer facilities to comply with all reporting and permits required by State and Federal Agencies.
- Perform office duties such as filing, compliance sampling to EPA, etc.
- Must be able to maintain all compliance with reporting and permits.
- Will maintain general knowledge and be expected to work with the RVS billing system, reading meters, printing bills, etc.
- Coordinate with Public Works Administration on Chapter 18 issues, IHS applications, customer calls, draft notices and turning water services on or off.
- Maintained grounds at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Utility marking for water and sewer lines for Digger’s Hotline requests.
- Continued education will be required to maintain certifications.
- Must be available 24 hours a day for emergency situations. Does include weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
KNOWLEDGE: Must be able to read blueprints and understand the schematics and as-builts. Vehicle maintenance- gas & diesel. Knowledge of computer data entry. Knowledge of EPA drinking water and wastewater regulations. Knowledge of the Red Cliff Tribe’s environmental rules and regulations. Must also be knowledgeable of Native American tribes and the uniqueness of the Red Cliff Community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of high school diploma, HSED, or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- One year work experience is preferred but not necessary in Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- State of Wisconsin Water & Wastewater Operator Certification preferred; if no certification, must obtain basic operator-in-training certification with the first 18 months of employment and work towards all subclasses needed for certification.
- Willingness to take on duties and tasks when needed,.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle, and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Individual will have daily contact with community members, Tribal staff, customers, vendors, and other governmental agencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties assigned to this position involve lifting of at least 75 lbs. or more with assistance, bending, carrying, climbing, and twisting. These motions are generally utilized in field/inventory work
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Water and Sewer plant and Tribal lands with a majority of the time working is outside in various weather conditions. Must be able to walk through uneven terrain in various weather conditions. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Will be required to travel locally for inspection purposes. The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
