Village of Pardeeville is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Works Operator. We are looking for an energetic individual who demonstrates a high level of responsibility, accountability, and attention to detail. The Public Works Operator position performs tasks independently under the general supervision of the public works foreman.

Purpose of position

Under direction, performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled technical work as required for the efficient operation and maintenance of the Village infrastructure. This includes streets, parks, buildings, water system, wastewater treatment facility, lift stations, collection system and related equipment.

  • Perform minor and routine repairs to all Village buildings. Maintenance of which can include minor plumbing, electrical and general maintenance.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as backhoe, bucket truck, dump truck, skid steer, woodchipper, snow removal equipment, street sweeper, vac truck, and other Village vehicles.
  • Operates small equipment, tractor, mowers, chainsaws, and a full range of hand tools.
  • Carry out snow and ice removal from roads, sidewalks, parking areas, and other designated locations as assigned.
  • Complete general landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, forestry, weeding, shrubbery, planting, watering, composting and other duties as required.
  • Maintain accurate records for vehicle maintenance, supplies, and inventory.
  • Prepare and maintain Village parks, grounds, recreation facilities and equipment.
  • Field locates underground utilities.
  • Make rounds of facilities to record readings, controls, speeds, levels, pressures and temperatures. Operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data.
  • Provide repairs to streets, street signs, streetlights, paints traffic lines, and maintenance for all Village Street infrastructure and facilities.
  • Ensure the proper care and maintenance of storm sewer systems, water lines, and wastewater sewer lines.
  • Performs inspection of hydro electric dam including water level management.
  • Responsibilities of the employee include monitoring and regulation of process control to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws. Assist in the preparation of regulatory reports.
  • Position acts as Operator in charge of the water system and or wastewater system in the absence of the respective Operator in charge.
  • Performs necessary sampling and laboratory testing.
  • Maintains, modifies and repairs process equipment including pumps, motors, gauges and instrumentation. Maintains and repairs collection systems and lift stations.
  • Maintains and repairs water systems, wells and towers. Required to read, test and install water meters.
  • Perform hydrant maintenance including flushing and repair. Assist in exercising water valves and maintaining valve records.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical labor activities as needed. Including shoveling, lifting over 50 pounds with assistance, moving heavy equipment or materials. Bending, reaching, and climbing. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Is expected to perform work in extreme weather conditions and respond to calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Weekend work is required on a rotational basis.
  • Assist all Village personnel when required.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Collaborate effectively and interact courteously and civilly with all Village employees and residents.
  • Be available to respond to call backs and perform assigned overtime duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in construction, water utility operations, wastewater utility operations.
  • History of progressively responsible work experience.
  • Possess or obtain a commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement within six months of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a Wisconsin Water Operator certification: grade OIT within the first year of employment. Obtain grade 1 with appropriate subgrades for the facility within two (2) years of employment.
  • Possess or obtain a Wisconsin Wastewater Operator certification: grade OIT basic general, and basic subclass within the first year of employment. Obtain basic license with all appropriate subgrades for the facility within two (2) years of employment.
  • As an emergency employee, a thirty (30) minute response time is required for this position.
  • Pass post-employment job offer medical examination requirements prior to hire.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be subject to drug/alcohol testing as required by the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT).

Compensation and Application Process

Salary Range: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, in accordance with Village policy.
