Position Summary

New London Utilities is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Water Operator. This position focuses on the operation and maintenance of the city’s water distribution and treatment facilities. You will assist in ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water to the community through regular system inspections, repairs, and water quality monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • 2 years of experience working with municipal water system is preferred, but not required.
  • Wisconsin DNR certifications in groundwater and distribution and Iron removal or the ability to achieve within first year of employment.
  • Wisconsin CDL with appropriate endorsements or the ability to achieve within the first year of employment. Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required.
  • Sound mechanical ability and computer knowledge (Word/Excel) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work alone and within a team atmosphere.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of water mains, hydrants, valves, and water quality monitoring.
  • Perform regular testing and monitoring of water samples.
  • Conduct daily checks of wells, pumps, and storage facilities and provide chemical treatments as directed to ensure proper operation of the water system.
  • Respond to after-hours trouble calls, including broken or frozen pipes. Part of an on-call rotation.
  • Operate various tools and heavy construction equipment like backhoes and dump trucks after proper training.
  • Salary range is dependent on qualifications, and is negotiable based on experience. A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
