Village of Hazel Green is seeking a full-time, qualified, dependable, and motivated professional to serve as Wastewater Superintendent. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance of the Village’s wastewater treatment facilities and related systems.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with Village officials, employees, regulatory agencies, contractors, neighboring municipalities, and the general public.
The Wastewater Superintendent will ensure that all wastewater operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Wastewater Superintendent’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of the Village’s wastewater treatment plant and related facilities.
- Monitor treatment processes and make operational adjustments as necessary to maintain effective and efficient plant performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable wastewater regulations, permits, standards, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely operational records, logs, reports, and computerized
- Prepare and submit required regulatory reports accurately and within established
- Coordinate wastewater sampling, laboratory testing, inspections, and required monitoring activities.
- Identify equipment, maintenance, and operational issues and take appropriate corrective
- Inspect, maintain, and coordinate the repair of pumps, motors, electrical systems, treatment equipment, vehicles, and other utility equipment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventative maintenance schedules and
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate utility personnel as
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure employees follow established safety procedures and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Respond to wastewater system emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective
- Participate in emergency call-outs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, engineers, regulatory agencies, and neighboring
- Attend Village Board and committee meetings as
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with Village officials, employees, residents, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the general public.
- Assist surrounding communities through mutual-aid activities when qualified and

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in an outside environment or in shop areas. There is exposure to high equipment noise, chemical fumes, and potential electric and machinery hazards. Outdoor field conditions are varying weather conditions, with varying low to high equipment noise; walking on changing ground surfaces; and driving in various weather conditions.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Labor-intensive tasks require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. Visual acuity is required for depth perception and color perception, night vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts. Manual dexterity and strength is required for the use of measuring devices, assembly, fabrication or repair of devices or equipment at arm’s length. The worker may be subject to adverse environmental conditions of temperature, noise and vibration for an extended period of time. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. The ability to be seated for long periods of time and reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required, on occasion. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of
- Ability to obtain all wastewater certifications required for the position within eighteen (18) months of hire.
- Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications through continuing education and applicable training.
- Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment operation, maintenance practices, and workplace safety.
- Ability to accurately maintain records, complete regulatory documentation, and utilize computerized recordkeeping systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and exercise sound
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency and time-sensitive
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Village officials, employees, regulatory agencies, contractors, vendors, and the public.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain all wastewater licenses and certifications required for the position by the Village and applicable regulatory agencies.
The employee must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout employment and complete applicable continuing education and training as required.
