Village of Cottage Grove is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Utility Superintendent in the Department of Public Works & Utilities.  Work hours are 6:00am – 2:00pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend work and occasional overtime.

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works & Utilities and is responsible for providing organization and supervisory direction in a diversified public works environment. Specific areas of focus include day-to-day supervision, administrative work in planning, operating, and maintaining the facilities and equipment of the water supply, water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems. Regularly researching and evaluating operations and techniques to create a more efficient and reliable operation.

The Utility Superintendent is responsible for recording, compiling, and reporting information to regulatory agencies as required, including the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Public Service Commission (PSC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), Dane County and the State of Wisconsin.

Required qualifications include high school graduation or equivalent and ability to operate all manners of heavy machinery and equipment used in a public works environment.  Municipal Waterworks Operator Certification in Groundwater and Distribution (or ability to attain within 12 months of employment) and a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and Class B CDL (or ability to attain in 6 months) are requirements of the position.  Ideal candidate will have 5 years of progressively responsible experience within a municipal utility or a closely related field.  Previous supervisory experience a plus.

$33.00/hour +/- dependent on qualifications and experience, with excellent Village benefits.
